Yesterday was my last payday for 2010. My housing cost gets deducted from each paycheck.
Even though we get paid every 2 weeks, business was slow and I got sent home early alot...so I only worked 43.26 hours. My rent for those 2 weeks was only $17.30.
Why was my rent only $17.30?? Because I only have to pay 0.40 for every hour I work, with the most it goes up to is $32 per pay-period.
For the whole year of 2010, my housing cost was only $614.12. Now when I told my son…

In case I fall asleep again and miss the next Monday night chat, like I did last week....LOL
Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.
Now I was never very good with New Year Resolutions...oh I can make them, but I also break them a month later.
Which is why I used to tell people that it was better to make 12 resolutions~1 for every…
ContinueThey say its variety, but I've found its all about the new. The adventure.
I get tired of just switching it up, tonight pizza, tomorrow, roast beef.
How about some serious Discovery? Drive to a new place, eat food you've never even heard of?
Same goes for the work site, job discription, friends and fauna.
Its a delight to explore, to learn something new. New.
Discovery. Adventure. Its addictive.

I'm feeling the need to continue the "Are You Afraid," blog but in a different vein . The title is a phrase I will often use when hitchhiking our World . Typically I mumble the phrase when I'm parched , the "road" is a prayer at best and the next goat truck might just be my express ticket to a chilled Cerveza or a Twinkee resupply point ... I digress .
This ramble is directed towards people already in the labor market who might thinking about seasonal employment . Maybe you've…

I know many of you had careers for a bunch of years and now you've transitioned to this "foot loose and fancy free" lifestyle. You're ready to work hard at now barely minimal wages for the grand experience of hiking a new trail. I get it. In part. I…

Richard had been in business for 35 years. Finally sick of the stress, he quits his job and buys 50 acres of land in Alaska as far from humanity as possible. He sees the postman once a week and gets groceries once a month. Otherwise it's total peace and quiet..
After six months or so of almost total isolation, someone knocks on his door. He opens it and a huge, bearded man…

First off, I was going to title this blog "Why I want to Work in Alaska" however the more I thought about it I realized the working part is just a means to an end .... and the end is just getting to Alaska and spending 4 months there exploring, meeting new friends, drinking northern home brew, eating incredible seafood, and , yes, working. So here are my "ten" reasons for wanting to visit our northernmost state ...
1) The incredible scenary
2) The independent and resourceful…
