Living & Working in Great Places
Thanks for being here! The six of us at CoolWorks welcome you and wish you success in finding your Jobs in Great Places®!
It has been an exciting couple of weeks here at Mesa Verde National Park. My job at the visitors center is going well ..... I really enjoy helping folks get the most out of their time at the park. Also my weekends have been busy. A couple of weeks ago I took one of my new friends (Tom) on a day trip to Hovenweep National Monument. Hovenweep is a collection of Pueblo villages around 1,000 years old.
Tom and I did the 2 mile loop hike adjacent to the Visitors Center and saw some impressive pueblo ruins.
To think these structures have survived 1000 years of wind, rain, snow and ice .... it is really quite amazing, and a testament to the original builders. In case you were wondering, they shaped most of the stones before building the walls....an incredible amount of work went into these constructions.
The next weekend I met Julien, Justin, Madelyn, and Jeff from Coolworks .... Yahooo! They all work for Aramark in various capacities. I asked Julien, Justin and Maddie if they wanted to go 4-wheelin in Moab UT. Julien and Justin got up early and met me at the Aramark housing complex near the Mesa Verde entrance. Then we set out for Moab UT (a 2.5 hour drive from the park entrance). What a great time we had! I can really dig this off road stuff .... you get to see some spectacular scenary in a short period of time and still get back in time for work the next day! Here's a few pics from our trip ...
Just a couple of shots of us with my 4x4 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X (an extremely cool vehicle).
A few shots from our lunch stop and some spectacular scenary ...
It is really very meditative and special to be out away from the crowds and just surrounded by beautiful scenary and quiet except for the sound of a gentle breeze :-) Makes you want to never go back to a crowded city! I think a fun time was had by all ... I certainly hope we get a chance to do it again soon!
Well more adventures are on the drawing boards .... next up will be the total annular solar eclipse at Canyon de Chelly on May 19-20 .... I've already got my camping space reserved! This should be absolutely spectacular!
Until next time .... Ranger Rich
