Hi All!  It's getting real close to my end of season wrap up :-)   Today I went on the BEST cliff dwelling tour of the season!  I went to a place called "Square Tower House" on what is referred to as a back country hike.  Our group was limited to only 10 people, and we had a fantastic Ranger Tour guide named Tom Wolfe.   The tour began at 8am and lasted until a little after 10am.   Square Tower House is very rarely visited, so it was really special going to a fairly pristine site.

There were ancient pottery shards scattered around the site (which we did not disturb).  The cliff wall had a number of interesting petroglyphs (figures pecked into the stone) including a triangle, spiral, and two human figures.  The most spectacular feature was an actual Kiva Roof (over 700 years old!) which was largely intact ... one of only two partially intact Kiva roofs in the park!  All the rest collapsed long ago.   What an amazing sight!

Today I felt I got the icing on the cake so to speak.  My stay here has been just fantastic, and this hike just topped off a fabulous summer .... but more about that in my season wrap up.     Take Care, Ranger Rich

aggie I am so happy for you - get home and take a needed rest - sorry we missed coming out this summer it was our intention - but we drove to mammoth cave national park - then on to Niagara Falls - it was splendid the falls are great - the drive up and back was like 2500 miles but worth it - Kathy decided she wanted to escape the summer heat and we had never been to the falls - we hope to meet up with you again soon God bless you
