Summer 2011 in Mesa Verde .... I will never forget it!

Here I am in Pagosa Springs CO writing the blog I dreaded.   I left Mesa Verde for the last time this year a couple of days ago.  I just didn't want it to end ... I would have gone another 6 months easily but I have family, friends, and obligations waiting for me in Texas.   This summer was everything I was hoping and much more.   It started that first week when the little girl walked up to the visitor center counter and asked me for my autograph.  It ended when I swore in four new Junior Rangers on my last day and took pictures with the kids with my funny hat on!  Oh, how I LOVE being a Park Ranger!   But now the badges have been turned in, the uniforms are in storage, and all awaits me doing it again sometime in the future.

I have decided Colorado in the fall has got to be one of the most beautiful places on earth :-)  Take a look at these colors from my recent 4 wheel drive, Jeeping adventure ...

Oh, how I am going to miss this place!   But my summer went beyond Colorado.  I was fortunate to be able to fly to the Grand Tetons to meet Kari, Megan, Terry, and other really cool friends in a glorious National Park called the Grand Tetons.   And Grand they were....exceeding all my expectations.

And then in August I had the privilege to finally meet the infamous "Sunni" at Grand Canyon South Rim.   What fun we had during the short time I was there :-)  Thanks Sunni ..... it was a blast ...

My last few days on Mesa Verde were spent hiking ALL the remaining trails in the park.  I have done every one of them, and some more than once.  My last hike was up to Point Lookout, a spectacular way to wrap up hiking with jaw dropping views of the Montezuma and Mancos valleys ...

So now I rest like the giant Warrior of the Sleeping UTE Mountain ...

Before I sign off, I want to give a special Thanks to none other than Flat Stanley :-)  Thanks Flat for motivating me to become a Park Ranger ..... I have loved every second of it, just as you obviously do :-)  Here's my wish that you don't end up in a 200 deg hot spring .... take care my friend until next Summer!   Now I'm signing off ....Ranger Rich

Oh yeah.....I also finally ran into Ken Bender this summer.  Quite a guy :-)   He got lost trying to drive from Breckenridge CO to Pagosa Springs!   Next time I'm sending someone to pick him up!   Anyway, Thanks was a fun time together.
