2011 Hiring Starts in Las Vegas Baby

Posted on January 18, 2011 at 11:45am 0 Comments

Hi everyone. Princess is starting to roll with its 2011 hiring for seasonal Alaska jobs. It is always great to chat with folks on MyCoolworks about the upcoming summer and answer any questions people might have. I just wanted to let anyone in the Las Vegas area know that I will be out there next week, Jan 24 through 28, to do some recruiting. If anyone is in that area and wants to swing by to chat or just say hi, please let me know. It is always good to meet the dedicated members of the…

The Employee Journey -- pt.6 The Last Minute Checklist

Posted on April 5, 2009 at 4:00pm 1 Comment

It is getting closer and closer to the summer season. Most of you are probably excited for your 2009 adventures. When I worked seasonally I always went a little stir crazy about this time. I knew where I was going and wanted to get there. If you are in the same condition I always was, you run the risk (as I did) of forgetting to pack something or make an important final arrangement. Excitement is the friend of forgetfulness in my household. So I wrote this last-minute checklist for you to… Continue

Seasonal Work Strategies

Posted on March 19, 2009 at 7:17pm 9 Comments

I thought I would write a blog on some of the differing summer work strategies I’ve seen over the years. Some are good and some are bad, but they are popular. I see them every summer. Hopefully you can create a strategy for yourself that includes much of the good and very little of the bad.

1. The Early Bird – this strategy focuses on your first month at your new job. Most seasonal jobs come with various discounts. The Early Bird tries to use every discount they have in their first… Continue

The Employee Journey – pt. 5 How to Build on Year 1 and Beyond

Posted on February 17, 2009 at 5:00pm 14 Comments

The past chapters on my employee journey blog have focused almost exclusively on the first time seasonal work experience. Well perk up all your “career” seasonal workers, I am writing this blog for the repeat seasonal employee. The goal is to help you become the lead, supervisor, or manager you always wished you had your first season. And if you are a first time seasonal employee, remember this advice as your season goes on. It can come in handy a year from now.

As a hiring manager… Continue

An Updated Look at Alaska in 2009

Posted on January 30, 2009 at 12:00am 7 Comments

Well howdy, long time no see. I was on such a roll blogging, and I truly appreciated all the comments I was receiving, and then that darn work thing started getting in the way. I plan on continuing my Employee Journey series soon, but wanted to give everyone an update about the upcoming 2009 Alaska summer. The last 3 weeks have seen some pretty major changes.

I previously spoke about the downward trend in bookings in the cruising industry, specifically with my information working for… Continue

Hi Rick Peterson, I am a new hire at McKinley Princess, this year and am full of questions.  Saw that you had done a list of what to bring as far as clothes and stuff for our rooms and was wondering if you could post it again for us newbees. Am so looking forward to getting there and meeting everyone.  Also saw on an e-mail that there is not tv's in the rooms but that there are rentable ones for our use?  If so how do we rent one?  Hey thanks for any info and hopefully we will meet during the summer.  Thanks again Pam
